August 2, 2022

John Hurst, Systems Specialist II on Damuth Trane’s service team, celebrated 35 years with the company last month. John joined Damuth Trane in 1987 after rubbing elbows with a couple of Damuth associates when he was a Facility Maintenance Supervisor for one of the buildings the company had installed systems in. The associates encouraged him to apply for a job at Damuth Trane and he soon joined the company as a Service Helper, later transitioned to a Service Technician role, then eventually moved into his current role focusing primarily on building controls.

Over the years, John has undergone many training classes on Trane HVAC equipment, controls, and ABB Drives to maintain his expertise on the systems Damuth Trane sells and services. He holds a Virginia Master HVAC License, Universal Refrigerant Certification, and has his Tradesman License from the Board of Contractors. John is also a member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society as well as the Association of Energy Engineers where he earned the title of Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP).

As a System Specialist II, John is responsible for meeting client needs and commitments through the overall performance and execution of Building Automation System (BAS) service agreements, retrofit projects, and system service. His role is to develop relationships with building owners and work in coordination with the BAS service team leader and owner sales team in developing system solutions. Because of his wide knowledge base on HVAC systems, much of John’s time is often spent providing technical support and mentoring for other technicians in the field as well.

David Bannon, Service BAS Team Leader said of John: “In his 35 years here at Damuth Trane, John has always gone the extra mile to ensure he is delivering the 5-Star Experience to our clients. As a trusted advisor, mentor and friend, John has built meaningful relationships with both internal and external clients over the years that are evident in both his work ethic and pride in workmanship. Congratulations on 35 years with Damuth, John, and we appreciate all you have done for us and our clients!”

John and his wife of over 30 years, Teresa, live in Carrsville, Virginia. Their youngest daughter lives in Franklin and their older daughter and son both live in Greenville, South Carolina where they visit often. When John is not working, he enjoys kayaking, hiking, and just about anything outdoors. He’s often found helping family and friends on their own home maintenance projects or volunteering at his local church. Reflecting on 35 years of service with Damuth, John stated: “I really value the culture and people here at Damuth. I’ve been given a lot of opportunities while with the company and love that I can always be learning as new technology emerges. My personal goal is to apply the golden rule to all of my interactions: treat others the way you would want to be treated. Once of my favorite quotes is: ‘It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it’ (Lou Holtz). I believe the strong teamwork aspect here at Damuth help me carry the load and has kept me here all these years.”
