February 1, 2015 marks the 45th anniversary of Damuth Trane, a Chesapeake-based business that has grown from 8 employees in a small office to 181 employees that occupy a 50,000 square foot headquarters facility and three parts stores (Chesapeake, Virginia Beach and Newport News).

The key to their success:  their associates; the Company Super Heroes.  “Our associates are problem solvers,” said Clint Damuth, Company President since 2001.  “Every day they work with clients to evaluate or design a building system that will ultimately help them maintain a high level of comfort for their occupants in a healthy indoor environment and reduce their operating costs.”

“And our success is directly related to the confidence and trustplaced in us by our clients and associates.  We’re in the business of sustainability and it’s our people and community presence that helps us maintain our success,” Damuth said.

Don Damuth, the founder and Chairman of the Board, joined Trane in 1961 after serving in the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan.  He was first sent to offices in Philadelphia and Long Island, NY before coming to Hampton Roads.  He purchased the Hampton Roads / Northeast North Carolina Trane commercial franchise in 1970.

Damuth Trane is a multi-faceted company that sells commercial HVAC equipment, controls, parts, access control and video systems and provides retrofit and service solutions on existing systems and engineering for total energy solutions.

Damuth Trane has been named as one of the Best Places to Work in Virginia for the 5th year in a row for 2015!  The annual list of the Best Places to Work in Virginia was created by Virginia Business and Best Companies Group. This group is dedicated to finding and recognizing Virginia’s best employers. A two part assessment is used to gather detailed information about each company that applies for the award.  Part 1 is completed by the employer and Part 2 is completed by the employees of the company.

This statewide survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Virginia, benefitting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses.  The 2015 Best Places to Work in Virginia list is made up of 100 companies.

Below are the eligibility requirements:BPTW 2015 log

  • Be a for-profit, not-for-profit business or government entity;
  • Be a publicly or privately held business;
  • Have a facility in the state of Virginia
  • Have at least 15 employees working in the state of Virginia
  • Must be in business a minimum of 1 year

Companies from across that state entered the two-part survey process. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience and was worth 75% of the total evaluation.  The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.

Damuth Trane has been a proud supporter of the Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation’s Bra-ha-ha for several years! The Bra-ha-ha raises funds to support all forms of breast health, IMG_0162including free mammograms for those who need it most.  This helps to alleviate financial barriers preventing early detection and enables more positive outcomes for patients.  We had several fundraising events throughout the year to raise money for this wonderful organization.  We hosted a 4th of July cookout for associates, we hosted a corn hole tournament on July 26, 2014 at Big Woody’s Bar & Grill, and we also collected money from our “Blue Jean Friday” campaign in the office.

We were thrilled to be able to present a check to The Bra-ha-ha in the amount of $5,746.23!!!  A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated and donated to this amazing cause; without you this would not have been possible!

Damuth Trane’s Bra-ha-ha committee put great thought and imagination into this year’s bra submission. We wanted to keep the same theme of the event, which is a “Seriously Uplifting Experience”, in the creation of our bra.  What’s more uplifting than hot air balloons!? Each committee member created a unique hot air balloon to symbolize that each breast cancer experience is different and unique to each person. The final product was a beautiful uplifting bra.  We had 3 other associates who also created bras to submit into the annual event!

Associates and friends were super excited to be able to attend the Annual Bra-Ha-Ha Event held on September 26th at the Chesapeake Convention Center.  Each year the talent and creativity displayed through the bra creations is beyond what anyone could ever imagine… you have to see it to believe it!  It was a great night filled with happiness and inspiration…a “Seriously Uplifting Experience”!
