Cancer affects the whole family, changing the fabric and the focus of everyday life.  During this time, Special Love, a nonprofit organization, offers an unwavering, unconditional community of support through many activities and events.

Damuth Trane is proud to be part of the 10th Annual Tidewater Family Weekend sponsored by Special Love scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 20th – 21st.   The event will be held at the Airfield 4-H Conference Center where families can canoe, hike, enjoy crafts and sing around a campfire.  It’s open to the immediate family of any cancer patient 17 years old and younger, bereaved families with children 16 and younger, and active BRASS (BRothers And SiSters of children with cancer) families.

A team of Damuth associates will attend the event on Saturday; helping the volunteers serve lunch.  “I participated last year and the fellowship among these families is incredible,” said Phil Damuth, Vice President of Damuth Trane.  “The participants are working through a difficult time in their lives.  This weekend there will be a lot smiles and laughter as they enjoy activities and reaffirm they’re not in this alone.”

Special Love lets kids be kids, through camps, financial assistance, and a community of support that lets them (and their families) know that they’re not alone in their battle.

February 1, 2015 marks the 45th anniversary of Damuth Trane, a Chesapeake-based business that has grown from 8 employees in a small office to 181 employees that occupy a 50,000 square foot headquarters facility and three parts stores (Chesapeake, Virginia Beach and Newport News).

The key to their success:  their associates; the Company Super Heroes.  “Our associates are problem solvers,” said Clint Damuth, Company President since 2001.  “Every day they work with clients to evaluate or design a building system that will ultimately help them maintain a high level of comfort for their occupants in a healthy indoor environment and reduce their operating costs.”

“And our success is directly related to the confidence and trustplaced in us by our clients and associates.  We’re in the business of sustainability and it’s our people and community presence that helps us maintain our success,” Damuth said.

Don Damuth, the founder and Chairman of the Board, joined Trane in 1961 after serving in the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan.  He was first sent to offices in Philadelphia and Long Island, NY before coming to Hampton Roads.  He purchased the Hampton Roads / Northeast North Carolina Trane commercial franchise in 1970.

Damuth Trane is a multi-faceted company that sells commercial HVAC equipment, controls, parts, access control and video systems and provides retrofit and service solutions on existing systems and engineering for total energy solutions.

Damuth Trane has been named as one of the Best Places to Work in Virginia for the 5th year in a row for 2015!  The annual list of the Best Places to Work in Virginia was created by Virginia Business and Best Companies Group. This group is dedicated to finding and recognizing Virginia’s best employers. A two part assessment is used to gather detailed information about each company that applies for the award.  Part 1 is completed by the employer and Part 2 is completed by the employees of the company.

This statewide survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Virginia, benefitting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses.  The 2015 Best Places to Work in Virginia list is made up of 100 companies.

Below are the eligibility requirements:BPTW 2015 log

  • Be a publicly or privately held business;
  • Have a facility in the state of Virginia
  • Have at least 15 employees working in the state of Virginia
  • Must be in business a minimum of 1 year

Companies from across that state entered the two-part survey process. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience and was worth 75% of the total evaluation.  The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.
